Not a real work of art but close: Monet wallpapers
Claude Monet's impressionist art style reflects reality and everyday life with an expressionist brushstroke. He became world-famous for his play of light and shadow, which is why his paintings are still among the most expensive and famous works in the world today. In 2019, his 'Haystack in the Sunlight' (French: 'Meules') was sold at auction in New York for 111 million dollars, making it the most valuable painting by the French artist ever auctioned. It was also the first Impressionist work to fetch more than 100 million dollars at auction. However, other works, in particular his oil paintings of water lilies and poppy fields, also enjoy worldwide recognition and fame. If you have always wanted to integrate such a masterpiece into your home, our Monet wallpapers offer a high-quality alternative. You can now bring these globally recognised works of art into your home as Monet wallpapers.
Monet's talent was recognised early on: born in 1840 and raised in Le Havre, he was already known at school for his caricatures. At the age of 19, Claude began studying at the Académie Suisse, a recognised French art school in Paris, but he could not identify with the standardised and uncreative teaching methods of the professors there. His attempts to show his artworks in the Académie's exhibitions were also futile. Financial fears drove him into depression, which is why he jumped into the Seine. Later, Monet's first wife, Camille Doncieux, became the subject and inspiration of many of his paintings, such as 'Woman with a Parasol'. Monet's painting of her deathbed is still regarded today as one of the most emotional and moving works of art after Camille's death at the age of 32. You can now discover Monet wallpapers with his beloved wife as a motif in our wallpaper shop.
Monet's well-known obsession with water lilies led him to create over 250 oil paintings with the popular motif in the last 30 years of his life. To this day, water lilies are considered the 'Sistine Chapel' of Impressionism and are exhibited in museums worldwide. In addition to working with his favourite motif, Monet found inspiration for new works while gardening. He painted the famous painting 'Bridge over the Water Lily Pond' in Giverny, where he had bought a piece of land with a pond near his property. He painted this motif with the wooden bridge in 18 views within a year and was probably inspired by Japanese woodcuts. The reflections in the water in these prints are striking and illustrate Monet's talent for the effect of light in his Impressionist paintings. He maintained the Impressionist style until the end of his life. These world-famous water lilies with their uniquely depicted water reflections can now also be found as a Monet wallpaper motif.
